Annelien Counselling and Psychotherapy
I am a qualified professional Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and a registered member of Council for Counsellors in South Africa. I am currently based in Melkbosstrand. I worked as a School Counsellor in Zambia and Australia, where I experience the growth of a multicultural youth. My aim is to help you overcome problems that are causing emotional pain such as anxiety, depression, stress, grief and every day issues that can cause distress.
I am also a registered Life Coach, working in partnership with my clients for a period of 3 to 6 months. We meet weekly either in person, over the phone or on Zoom/Skype. Sessions last 60 minutes. Before each session I will send a questionnaire to get you ready for the session. Then we will discuss the issues that are keeping you from being your best and discover ways to address those issues. At the end of our coaching relationship, clients are more confident, blockages have been removed and they are ready to head forward in life. I understand the negative impact these can have on your life and the toll it can take. I provide solid foundations for your care so that you can find a happier more fulfilling way forward, with a greater sense of self. Rest assured that when you meet with me, you’ll be in a kind, safe non-judgemental confidential environment, where you can explore difficult feelings, thoughts and emotions to enable you to live the better life you deserve. We all experience difficult times, emotions and relationships at some stage in our lives. You are not alone in choosing to look for support and you have taken that first positive step towards feeling well. It can be daunting to reach out to someone else to talk through the difficulties you are experiencing and it takes immense courage to do so. You can be assured of my complete attention and utmost respect and you will be given time to take things at your own pace, allowing you safely open up and talk about your experiences and just be you.

I tailor my approach to best suit you, using an eclectic approach. These proven techniques will enable you to gain greater personal insight into what makes you tick and find inner strength and confidence, reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and to balance at times difficult thought, feelings and emotions. I strive to best use my experience and expertise to help you on your journey to positive change and will be your guide for as little or long as you require. Regardless of what is required, rest assured I will be committed to helping you regardless of your situation. Psychoanalytic therapy aims to gain insight and understanding of our inner selves. It therefore focuses on longer term change and not only short-term relief.

Individual counselling involves working with the individual on a one-on-one basis in order to address his or her needs and difficulties. With the psychotherapist, individuals can share their innermost thoughts and feelings.
This sharing helps individuals to understand themselves better and helps them to address their emotional difficulties in a more adaptive fashion. These difficulties could be something they are facing in day to day life, a situation they are unable to deal with, a decision they find difficult to make, a relationship they find difficult to handle, a past they are unable to get over or emotions and feelings that they find difficult to accept and deal with.
Many marriages are troubled with conflict and become a source of pain instead of love and happiness. At Inner Space, we work with couples through marriage counselling in individual and joint sessions in order to resolve relationship and marriage problems. Initial sessions of marriage counselling or couples counselling involve working with one partner at a time. After some headway has been made individually, joint sessions are encouraged.
Online counselling is a great way to get the professional help of a therapist to work on your difficulties, even when you physically cannot be present for a one-on-one counselling session. Perhaps you are a few hundred kilometres away or perhaps even a continent away, your distance does not stop you from choosing happier ways of thinking and living. We try and make the process of online counselling as smooth for you as possible.
Many children today face several stressors at home, school and with peers. At a time when their minds are growing and they are forming impressions of how the world is, it is very important to work on such stressors in order to prevent the formation of long standing emotional and behavioural difficulties. Child counselling provides your little ones with an environment where they can explore their difficulties through child-friendly and holistic approaches.
Child counselling primarily involves ‘play therapy’ in addition to the commonly used talk therapy. Children, owing to their still developing language and communication skills often cannot express themselves verbally. They can relate to symbols better, such as are found in stories, picture books, puppets and drawings. This also makes therapy enjoyable for children.
